Agnes Elizabeth (Libby) Gravett was born on December 31, 1928 in Danville, VA, daughter of Herbert J. and Nanny Walton, and ascended into Heaven on March 8, 2011 at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach, FL. She attended school in Danville and graduated from George Washington High School in 1947. She met her husband, John A. Gravett, Jr. on a blind date and it was love at first sight. They were married on January 5, 1949. They had three children, Joy (Joe) Stincic, John A. (Andy) Gravett, III (deceased), and Julie Gravett, and one grandson, Andrew Stincic.
In 1961, Libby and John moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL and eventually settled in Plantation, a suburb of Ft. Lauderdale, to raise their family. In 1974, John was promoted to District Manager of Ashland Chemicals and the family was transferred to Ashland, KY. While in Kentucky, Libby was given the great honor of being commissioned a Kentucky Colonel by then-Governor Julian Carroll. In 1978, following another promotion, the family moved to Greensboro, NC. Libby kept a beautiful home and was active in all the communities she lived in. She was able to realize her dream of being a homemaker, wife and mother. She was instrumental in the rise of Johns career, serving as hostess and helpmate.
When John retired in 1994, he and Libby moved to Sebastian, FL, where they have lived since. Libby was a member of the local chapter of P.E.O. and dearly loved all her sisters. She was a long-time member of 1st United Methodist Church of Sebastian.
Libby and John also enjoyed extensive travel to such places as Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, Spain, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.
Libby was pre-deceased by her parents, her brother Herbert J. Walton, Jr., and her son Andy. A memorial service will be held at 1st United Methodist Church of Sebastian on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., with a reception immediately following in the church Fellowship Hall.
