Alana Hoffmaster Phelps finished her earthly journey on February 18, 2016.
Alana ws born July 10th, 1924, the daughter of Samuel and Marcella Hoffmaster in Basco, Wisconsin. After her formal education Alana was employed at the Truax Airfield Base until her marriage to the love of her life, David Richardson, of Verona, Wisconsin in Hollywood, Florida. This union was blessed with a son, Monty, and daughter, Gail. After WW2 the couple and their family resided in Belleville and Brookfield, Wisconsin respectively, where they established Richardson Sand and Gravel. Upon the death of her husband, David, Alana moved to their winter retreat in Stuart, Florida. There she met and married Archie Phelps, which resulted in living in the Bahamas for a number of years until his retirement.
Alana's most cherished position in life was that of a wife and mother. She loved the ocean and fishing, music, dancing, entertaining, cooking, needlework, cards and volunteer work. Golf was a passion she never conquered. Church was very dear to her heart, being a life time member of the Evangelical and Reformed Church, now known as United Church of Christ, she found one in its infancy in Sebastian, Florida. A charter member of the church she chaired and served in many capacities throughout the years watching it grow from 16 members to what it is today. Humbly she received the Cointepoix Distinguished Service Award for outstanding dedication of service in the church.
Alana Phelps reflected Christ's unconditional love - whether through a caring letter, a visit to a friend, an encouraging word, a prayer of blessing over family and friends or a loving embrace. She touched the heart of God each time she touched a life He brought into hers. Embraced by young and old alike, well loved in the fishing and religious communities, truly vested in life -well informed, engaged, enthusiastic, warm, generous, inspiring, nurturing, kind, and just plain old good company!
Alana was a treasure to all who were privileged to know her and will be remembered with love, laughter, kindness and thankfulness.
Predeceased by her parents, husband, David, and son, Monty, Alana is survived by Archie Phelps, her most beloved and supportive daughter, Gail and son-in-law, Kevin Nesbitt of Middletown, CT, her step children Judy Phelps, Donna (Michael) Alderman, Jeff, (Marianne) Phelps, Richard Phelps, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren; sister-in-laws, Louise Daniels, Thelma Raskin. Extending families, Nancy Richardson Kippley, Blanche Blake, Sherwood (Mary) Zink, Uncle Dallas (Dorothy) Wild, the Albertson family: Darris, Darold, Carol Cooke and Chelle Calvert, Irene Hofmaster, the Gernheuser family; Penny Bessire, Bob (JJ), Charles, Janeen (Kevin) Mason; a niece and many nephews and cousins. Very special mention of the Gallarano family, honorary granddaughter, Sage, the Mark Hanks family, Jerry Ziegler, and the Roger Buesser family. So blessed with so many dear friends
