Obituary

Alice Barlow Caywood, age 103, a resident of The Promenade in Sebastian, Florida, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2025 at the VNA Hospice House shortly after having had a stroke. Born on October 12, 1921, in Manchester, Connecticut, she was the beloved daughter of
Clarence and Margaret Barlow.

Alice graduated from Manchester High School and pursued college courses in the evenings, focusing on typing and shorthand. At the age of 18, she began her professional career at Travelers Insurance Company. After marrying the love of her life, William C. Caywood, she worked at Hamilton Standard Propellers before finding her most fulfilling role as an administrative assistant to a lawyer while living in Ohio. Later she lived in Silver Spring, Maryland having had several jobs working for Montgomery County Public Schools. Finally retiring as a library aide. Beyond her career, Alice was a devoted wife, mother to her 3 children, and homemaker, always cherishing time spent with her family. She and William shared 61 beautiful years of marriage before his passing.

Alice lived a full and active life and was still playing golf and water skiing into her 90's. She also enjoyed playing cards, square dancing, swimming, traveling, reading, and exercising. She valued staying connected with her family and friends and always remained informed about current events. Throughout her life, she called many places home, including a lake house in Gettysburg, PA, and a condo on a golf course in Naples, FL, where she spent her winters as a snowbird. She was actively involved with her family and close circle of friends up until her passing.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William C. Caywood, and her daughter, Donna C. Holt. Alice is survived by her sons, William C.  Caywood Jr. and Curtis B. Caywood, as well as her cherished grandchildren: Brian Holt, Christy Lausch, Cadance Rowland, Michael Caywood, Catie Caywood, Lauren King, Chris Caywood, and Sean Caywood. Her legacy continues through her 15 great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy.

A celebration of Alice's remarkable life will be announced by her family at a later date. Her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
