Beverly Jane "BJ" Deratany, of Melbourne, Florida passed away at age 65 on August 7, 2014. She was born to the late Roger "Bud" and Martha Shankle in Frederick, Maryland on December 29, 1948. BJ graduated from Eau Gallie High School in 1968 and was a long time Brevard County resident and lived in the area for over 50 years.

BJ was a loving and caring mother who raised two beautiful children. She dedicated a lot of her time volunteering in the Apple Corp program at Gemini Elementary school where she was recognized and rewarded from the Brevard County School system for outstanding service and dedicating over 2,000 hours to the school programs. She then continued her passion caring for children and worked in the nursery at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Melbourne for 15 years making a positive impact on so many lives.

She is survived by her children Jeffrey Steven Deratany (son) of Melbourne, FL and Dawn Denise
Deratany (daughter) of San Diego, CA, and her former husband Dan Deratany of Indialantic, FL. She is also survived by her brothers Ted Shankle of Frederick, MD, and David Shankle of San Bernardino, CA.

She has now been united in heaven with her grandmother, Delma "Nanny" Shankle, her grandfather
Lewis Shankle, her parents Roger and Martha Shankle, and 3 siblings, Clyde Steven Himes,
Michael Jeffrey Shankle, and Treva Lynn Redding.

A memorial service will be held at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 50 W. Strawbridge Avenue, Melbourne, FL 32901 on Friday, August 15th at 10:00 a.m.
