Obituary

Daniel Dyer VanSlyck lost his battle with cancer on August 22, 2015.

He was born in Columbus, Ohio in December, 1966 and had a life-long love of being on the water, in the water fishing. As a boy he loved scouting, camping, and climbing trees.

Dan was raised in the Canton area and attended Nazareth Hall Military School in Toledo, where he perfected the 21-gun salute and led his company as the Student Sergeant Major. He later completed a business course in Culinary Arts and enjoyed cooking his own special recipes (in which incorporated ranch dressing whenever he could)

Dan's natural love of music was boosted by family gatherings, where music was always played a part. He learned to play guitar at the knee of his Grandpa Fritz Dyer and went from writing poetry in his 20's to writing songs in this 30's and 40's. He was blessed to spend his last 15 years with the love of his life, Deena Leioatts. Together they raised daughter, Brittany.

Dan was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Louis S. VanSlyck, his sister Glenda, brother Matthew, and his brother Chris. He is survived by his mother, Barbara VanSlyck, his brothers, Steven and Bruce, sister Jennifer Jayjohn, and son Cody Aaron, as well as the son of his heart, Christopher Williams, and memebers of the Leioatts family.

In keeping with his American Indian inspired faith, it was Dan's wish to have his ashes scattered over water to the East, the North, the South, and the West.

His friends and family will hold a memorial service and celebration of life in Sebastian, Florida, in late September.
