Donald J. Vogel, passes away February 14, 2015 after a long and courageous battle with prostate cancer.
He was born on July 25, 1939 in Erie, PA, to Robert Vogel and Anne Szewczkowski.
He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Germany as a Specialist 4.
After his service, he was employed at Hammermill Paper Co. and Eckerd Drug Store in Erie, PA, and later went into private business as the owner & operator of two taverns in Erie, The Duck Inn & Our Place. He also owned numerous income properties in the city of Erie.
He is survived by his second wife Sandra(Porfilio); a brother Robert and wife Rose; two children a daughter Brenda(Tom Nelson), and a son Brian(girlfriend Heidi); three step-children, Michele Hughes, Melissa Green, and Fred Carlson; four grandchildren, Bryce, Jared, Trevor, Shaela; five step-grandchildren, Brian, Brandy, Tyler, Morgan and Gracelynne; and three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Tiegan, and Silas.
He leaves his numerous friends, (especially his Poker Buddies, Logan, Joe, Terry, Bill, and Daniel) in Whispering Palms, FL where he wintered for 25 years.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Dinger Vogel.
Don was a life member of the Siebenberger Club and the Slovak Club of Erie, and also belonged to the VFW and The American Legion.
A gathering will be held Wednesday February 18, 2015 at Baker Hall, Whispering Palms Mobile Home Park, Sebastian, FL.
Services will also be held in his hometown information will follow.
