Dorothy Ann Smith, 89, of Wabasso, FL departed this life on January 30, 2025, peacefully in her home. Dorothy was a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and educator.
Dorothy was born on November 10, 1935, in Wabasso, Florida, to the late Samuel and Loretta Smith, where she spent her entire life with her late sisters Mary and Tena. A graduate of Vero Beach High School, she later went on to graduate with a bachelor's degree in Education and a Master's degree in Reading. She possessed an unwavering commitment to her community and her passion for education left an indelible mark on the lives of many. Dorothy dedicated 38 years of her life as a teacher, inspiring countless students with her wisdom, patience, and love for learning.
Dorothy's heart was fit to burst full of love for her many friends, and her church family from Christ the King Lutheran Church in Sebastian, FL. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life, finding immeasurable joy and comfort in her church community. Dorothy held a special place in her heart for her dear friends Latoya Hodges and Joyce Williams, whose companionship and support meant the world to her. The family cannot thank them enough for the love and care they provided for Dorothy.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Clinton Smith. Married June 26, 1959, she cherished their 46 years together and the family they built from the life they shared. She leaves behind a legacy of love, survived by her daughter, Grace Watson (Mark); her two sons, David Smith (Cheryl) and Groover Smith (Graciela). She also leaves her five beautiful granddaughters, Summer Monroe (Ben); Holli Carvajal (Luis); Brittany Schlitt (Michael); Katelyn Perkins (Michael); and Miranda Hunter (Jeffrey) and her six beloved great-grandchildren, Autumn and Brantley (Monroe); Lainey, Trace, and Callie (Schlitt); and Grayson (Perkins).
Dorothy will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her love, faith, and dedication to her family and friends will never cease to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Sebastian. Reception to follow at the church.
