Douglas A. Eggen, 87, Sebastian, FL., died September 29, 2012 at Indian River Medical Center.

Doug was born in April of 1925 in Rushford, MN. He served in the Navy during WWII on the USS Hadley a Destroyer, which fought during the battle for Okinawa. Thirty-Five Kamikaze planes were shot down after which two hit the ship nearly sinking it.

After returning home, Mr. Eggen attended the University of Chicago where he met and married his wife Elsie and earned a PHD in Biophysics in 1958. Doug performed research in arteriosclerosis and heart disease for 30 years at LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, attaining the rank of Professor of Pathology and Biometry.

He is survived by Elsie Eggen, his wife of 62 years; son Steven Eggen of Sebastian; daughter Karen Pilman of Acworth GA; Sister Elaine Datta of Winona MN; 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by daughter Susan Elaine McIntosh of Jackson, MS
