Edgar Vernon Phillips

Edgar Vernon Phillips "Uncle Edgar", 64, passed away at his home in Fellsmere, FL on May 27th, 2014. He was born in Miami and lived on the Treasure Coast for most of his life.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy. While in the Navy, he was awarded the citation of Electronic Technician Second Class and served on the U.S.S. Tullibee, SSN597. He also received the Good Conduct Award for Fidelity, Zeal and Obedience as an Electronics Technician Radar Second Class (SS).

After his years in the Navy, he attended both Miami-Dade Community College and Florida International University where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. He co-owned Phillips Construction Company alongside his brother, John William Phillips. They built hundreds of homes in the 80's and 90's along the Treasure Coast. Later in his career he worked as a foreman for Hedley Construction. He was a little league coach and umpire in Port St. Lucie throughout the 90's.

He was a man of gentleness, caring and love. He was a quiet man who treated his friends and family with love and respect. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife Sandy, who he was married to for 35 years. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Vernon and Mary Phillips and his brother John W. Phillips. His survivors include his sister Mary Phillip Jackman (Charles), and his nieces and nephews Joseph Phillips (Atlanta), John E. Phillips (Port St. Lucie), Lisa Jackman Rodriguez (Atlanta), Jeanne Marie Phillips (San Francisco), Michael Jackman (Tallahassee), Jennifer Jackman Begley (Neptune Beach), Mandy Fore (Ft. Pierce), Chessie Fore (Ft. Pierce) and Brandon Fore (Ft. Pierce).

A gathering will be held on Saturday, May 31st, 2014 from 10 to 11 am at Seawinds Funeral Home, 735 S. Fleming Street, Sebastian with a memorial service to begin at 11 am, Deacon John Dunlop presiding. Military Honors will be performed by the American Legion Post #189.

Inurnment will take place at a later date at South Florida National Cemetery.
