Eileen M. Kaiser, 89, of Barefoot Bay, FL, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 16, 2014, at Sebastian River Medical Center in Sebastian, FL, due to complications from a serious fall in her home in late April.
Eileen was born on May 1, 1925, in Ozone Park, NY and grew up in Floral Park, NY. Her parents, John Skinder Sr. and Julia Jacewicz emigrated from Northern Europe near Poland. Her father was a policeman on the Floral Park police force and her mother was a professional seamstress. Eileen was the middle child of five children: Emily Lucy, George, Eileen, John Jr. and James. She graduated from Sewanhaka High School in 1943. She worked in a hat shop, and also worked for General Electric in New York City. Later on she worked in a fabric store, as she was skilled as a seamstress like her mother.
She met and married Robert H. Kaiser on February 9, 1947, a marriage that lasted 67 years. During that time she had two daughters, Janis in 1949 and Diane in 1952. Eileen, Robert (Bob) and their two children lived in Seaford, NY. Upon retirement in 1995, Eileen and Bob moved to Barefoot Bay, FL.
Eileen enjoyed motherhood to the fullest. She also enjoyed crafting, ceramics, doll collecting, sewing and being a Girl Scout leader.
She is survived by two daughters, Janis Helmka of Flowery Branch, GA, and Diane Kaiser of Rockville Centre, NY; a grandson, Jason Helmka and great granddaughter, Emily Helmka of Lawrenceville, GA; and her 97-year-old sister, Emily Lucy Skinder of Vero Beach, FL.
A memorial service is to be held at Seawinds Funeral Home in Sebastian, FL on Thursday, May 22, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. A second memorial service will be held at Dalton Funeral Home in Floral Park, NY on Friday, May 30, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. directly followed by a graveside service at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY.
