Eleanor Mary Anderson 78 of Barefoot Bay, FL peacefully passed away Friday Sept 25th with her loving husband by her side.
Eleanor was born to the late Joseph and Opal Muzzy on June 15, 1937 in Providence, RI. Eleanor married John Anderson in 1963 and they lived together raising their 3 daughters in RI before relocating to Brevard County in 1995.
Eleanor's hobbies included crafts, crocheting, and sewing. She never met a knick knack or a yard sale she didn't like. She was an active member of the Barefoot Bay Marine Corp Auxiliary and loved volunteering with their Toys for Tots drive every year.
Eleanor was a devoted wife, loving sister and mother and an amazing grandmother. She never met a stranger and did her best to make sure everyone around her was happy. Eleanor had a very silly side to her and a great sense of humor. Get a glass (or two) of wine in her and the laughs were non-stop. One family get together mom found out the hard way that "Mike's Hard Lemonade" wasn't "just" lemonade. We all thought she was drinking the same one bottle. By the time she started dancing and singing, we asked her and realized that she was really on her fourth! Yes, that was a very memorable afternoon indeed. Family get-togethers won't be the same without her!
Eleanor was a woman of extreme strength and determination. One Saturday morning many years ago in RI she stubbed her toe on the fireplace surround for the very last time. Her daughters woke up to the sight and sound of bricks being thrown out the front door one by one. There was mom, all 5 feet of her taking the fireplace apart brick by brick with her bare hands and we had to stand in the front yard collecting bricks as they flew out of the house! Dad came home from work and just shook his head.
Another fine Saturday morning in RI her daughters woke up to mom's voice screaming "Gas Leak!!! Get out of the house! Fire!" Yes, mom had a way of getting teenagers out of bed early on a Saturday morning! Apparently mom decided to single handedly disconnect an old bar refrigerator in the basement and carry it upstairs to throw it out with the trash. Mom barely got to the stairs with her haul when she realized the hose she disconnected was connected to a hidden propane tank.. it was a couple of hours later when the fire department came to the neighbor's house where we were all waiting (still in our pajamas) to give us the OK to go back home. Dad came home from work, again shaking his head.
If Eleanor wanted something done, get out of her way because she was getting it done'! It was also smart to get out of her way for your own safety!!
Eleanor brightened the lives of her family and friends with her cheerful attitude, caring ways, laughter, and beautiful spirit. She put up a heck of a fight the past year and a half. In the end, she went on her terms - peacefully and quietly at home.
Eleanor is survived by her husband John Anderson, her children Tammy (Fred) Pierce of Melbourne, FL; Linda Haley of Sebastian, FL; and Sharon (Tom) Killay of Palm Bay, FL. She is also survived by her grandchildren TJ Killay of Orlando, FL; Jamieson and Katherine Pierce of Melbourne, FL. Her surviving siblings Dorothy (David) Morris; John (Shirley) Muzzy; Josephine Gorman; Joseph (Drew) Muzzy Jr. and brother in law Michael Leahy. Eleanor was preceded in death by her siblings Harvey Muzzy, Alice Leahy, and Michael Muzzy.
A gathering followed by a Celebration of Life will be held Monday September 28th at 2pm at Seawinds Funeral Home 735 S. Fleming St. Sebastian, FL 32958.
