Eugene Edward Herrin, 91, of Sebastian, FL, passed from this world into heaven, at his home with his wife at his side, on Sunday, November 24, 2024. Born in Canaan, Maine on January 20,1933, he was the son of John and Mae (Butterworth) Herrin.
He was married for over 27 years to the love of his life, Ruth (Reddick) Herrin who survives.
Eugene was a proud veteran serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a radar operator and later joined the Army National Guard attaining the rank of Chief Warrant Officer (CW-4) retiring in 1993 after 43 years of service. Following his military service, he was a helicopter pilot for the Civil Service and later employed by Maine helicopter as a spray pilot and pole light patrolman for the state of Maine.
Having lived in Lucerne and Winterport, Maine and Kohlersburg, Pennsylvania, after retiring he and his wife settled in Sebastian, Florida
Eugene enjoyed traveling with his wife and was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He was a member of the American Legion and up until his health declined, attended Bible Baptist Church in Sebastian
In addition to his wife he is survived by 3 sons Andrew(Jackie); Edward(Sandra); and John Herrin (Barbara Berube) all of Maine, a daughter, Stephanie (Harry) Rancort of Florida; a step-son Mark Reddick of Pennsylvania; a special friend who was like a son, Paul (Donna) Wheeler of Newfoundland; a special nephew and niece, David (Barbara) Dinger of Pennsylvania; a sister Caroline (Russell) Wadsworth of Florida and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren as well as many additional nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Jane and William Dolloff, brother–in- laws and sister- in-laws James and Alice Dinger; John and Helen Dinger; Gerald and Doris Dinger; Keith and Paula Dinger and his beloved dog, "Lady"
At his request there will be no visitation. A military memorial service and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Cape Canaveral Military Cemetery, Mims, Florida and the American Legion Post 189 in Sebastian, Florida.
