George Wayne Bailey of Sebastian, Florida, died September 22, 2019.
George was the forth child born to Lenous Garfield Bailey and Virginia Newell Dameron on January 8, 1933 in Roanoke Virginia. He is survived by his sister Betty, sons Jeffrey and Edward, grandsons Christopher and Brian, great-grandchildren Adalaide, Oren, and Lowell. He was preceded in death by his two brothers Norman and Maynard.
George graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1951 and received a B.S. Engineering Technology degree from the Capital Institute of Technology in 1957. He began his service in the U.S. Navy on May 8, 1950 and was honorably discharged on January 7, 1954. His service included fighting in the Korean War. He was stationed at the U.S. Naval Training Center, Bainbridge, Maryland Receiving Station, Boston Mass. and served on the U.S.S. Peterson (DE-152), which was an Edsall class destroyer.
George was an Electrical Engineer and worked for Rockwell International in Columbus, Ohio, Rockwell Commander in Bethany, Oklahoma, and for Flakt In Knoxville Tenn. Afterwords he become an electrical contractor until he retired in Sebastian Florida in 1996.
George was an active member of the Professional Archery Association (PAA) and competed nationally achieving many awards and trophies. His most famous achievement was at the Ohio Out Door Nationals where he put 6 arrows within a 9 inch bullseye, on a windy day, from 100 yards. He also enjoyed flying, was a flight instructor, and an avid and successful bow hunter. He loved golf achieving a total of 5 holes in one and 2 albatrosses. During his adolescence George was involved in many sports, including; wrestling where he was awarded a full scholarship at the University of Maryland, a boxer, a pole vaulter and a miler where his best time was 4:19.
A burial will be held on November 22, 2019, at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery
in Mims, Florida at 12:30 P.M. where he will be laid to rest with full military honors.
