GEORGE "BUDDY" RICHARD DERINGER, 86
George R. Deringer, known by all as "Bud", World War II veteran, lover of the ocean, snappy dresser, and ultralight pilot died on Tuesday, March 31, 2015. Born on Long Island, New York, to Madeline and George Deringer, Buddy joined the Navy in 1945 and after serving, moved to Florida to serve as a Lifeguard at Ft. Lauderdale beaches. Buddy spent a majority of his life near or on the ocean. He loved a good vodka and cranberry, and laughing with all his friends at the local Moose.
Buddy was crazy in love with his wife Linda of 33 years, and her death left a profound effect on him. In 2003, the year after her death, Buddy took up flying, perhaps to be closer to Linda's spirit in the heavens. The rat pack of pilots at the local airport - the Sebastian Hanger Rats - welcomed Buddy into their Powered Parachute flight club. There are many who will miss Buddy's well-known Red-White-and-Blue parachute in the skies over Sebastian Inlet, but his closest friends, Dick and Pam Marshall, will feel his absence most.
Two sons survive Buddy, Robert and Rex Deringer, along with their mom, Lois Deringer, and four incredible grandchildren, Scott, Danielle, Brianne, and Taylor. Two young great-grandchildren, Paxton and Lachlan, will learn of Buddy through stories and pictures of his adventure-filled life. Two other women in Buddy's life were his daughter-in-laws. Cary and Terri Deringer, loved and will miss him deeply.
Buddy had a big heart and he worked constantly to become a better person throughout his life. He had a great sense of humor, and he always loved a good joke because he always loved a good laugh. We will remember Buddy in this way - smiling, laughing, and happy.
The family will be holding a memorial for Buddy on April 9, 2015 from 1:00 until 3:00 PM at Building E next to the golf course in Barefoot Bay. There will be an Honor Guard presentation at 2:00 pm.
