George Henry Hawkins, age 75 of Barefoot Bay, FL, formerly of Greenfield, MA, passed away on October 1, 2014. He was born on January 6, 1939 in Greenfield, MA, the son of Sherman and Ruth (Mathys) Hawkins.
George was united in marriage on September 26th, 1959 to the former Judith Bedaw and they spent the next 55 joyous years together. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and father-in-law who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He graduated from Greenfield High School in 1957. After graduation, he served in the United States Air Force for 4 years.
He was proudly employed by United Parcel Service for 34 years, and was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 404. He thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to work outdoors and travel the many roads of Western Massachusetts.
George is survived by Judith Rae (Bedaw) Hawkins of Barefoot Bay, FL; son and daughter-in- law Dean R. and Yona Hawkins of Jacksonville, FL; daughter and son-in-law Ann M. and Michael Rowan of Gloucestershire, England; son and daughter-in-law Brian G. and Georgiana Hawkins of Pittsfield, MA; son and daughter-in-law Eric W. and Lauren Hawkins of Miami, FL; brothers Robert E. and James A. Hawkins of Greenfield, MA. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren Bryce and Chase Hawkins; Sarah, Matthew, and Nicola Rowan; Alexander Hawkins; Samantha and Jake Hawkins.
His many interests included reading, traveling, woodworking, motorcycling, and boating. His passion for reading mainly focused on world history and biographies.
A celebration of his life will occur in Greenfield, MA in the summer of 2015.
