Snyder
December 5, 1949 – January 21, 2025
George D. Snyder, 75, of Vero Beach, went home to be with his heavenly father on 1/21/2025. The oldest of 6, George was born in Warren, Ohio on 12/5/1949 to parents Thelma A. and Preston V. Snyder. George graduated from Plantation High School, Florida in 1967. He earned a bachelors degree in mathematics from Sterling College in Kansas. He taught, coached and mentored thousands of students and athletes in a career that spanned over 40 years, retiring in 2013.
Coaching many sports at both McDonald High School in Ohio and Plantation High School in Florida, including track & field, baseball, boys and girls basketball and football George was no stranger to the ball field or court. Before leaving a Mathematics teaching position at McDonald High school in 1980, he became the Athletic Director there. During his teaching and coaching career at Plantation High, he taught Algebra and there are pictures of him giving a lesson on his head. He taught an industrial trades class, and he and his students designed and constructed the Plantation High School sign, which he was very proud of.
A tenor vocalist, George played the 12 string guitar and 4 string banjo. While in college in Kansas, he organized a barbershop quartet called "The Foremost", cutting an album and touring a portion of the United States twice, beginning in the summer of 1969. Continuing his love for music, he went on to perform concerts at churches and private events, and played the part of Jesus in Easter celebrations.
George was a past member of the Champion Presbyterian Church in Champion Ohio. Along with his beliefs, he enjoyed composing and performing Christian and folk music. He was also a carpenter, a fisherman and rooted for the Miami Dolphins.
He will be deeply missed by his wife Yvonne of 38 years, sons Shawn Snyder (Beth) and Jesse Snyder (April), step-sons Shannon and Brian O'Neill, Brothers John, Bill (Elaine), & Ed Snyder (Debbie) and sister Jeanette Brown(Gary), Grandchildren Timothy Snyder (Alexis), Carrie and Callie Snyder, Great grand daughter Adalynn Snyder and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Gary Snyder and sons Steven and Jeremy Snyder.
George will be cremated and no services will be held. May he be clear of thought and full of love in his eternal rest.
