Passed away on October 12, 2017 at age 84. He was preceded in death by his parents Adam E. Herbster and Lucy Herbster (Tilley) and an infant son Merrill Paul. Jim was born in Columbus, Ohio.
Jim graduated from Dublin High School, Dublin, Ohio. He won trophies in football and also played basketball for Dublin. He ran a 50 yard touchdown on one of the Dublin games and commented on that when an OSU player ran numerous yards. He also cheered and booed the OSU basketball games.
Jim was in the army for two years and went into the landscape business after being discharged, with his dad Adam and continued the business after his father's death. He retired at age 70 and he and his wife, Nancy, moved to Barefoot Bay, Florida.
Jim was interested in history and collected antiques. He also had a collection of Put-in-Bay memorabilia which is now in the Lake Erie Islands Historical Society in Put-in-Bay. Jim is the grandson of Herman Alex Herbster and nephew of Otto Herbster of Put-in-Bay.
He is survived by wife Nancy, son Mark (April), Daughter Melanie Corson, son Kerry, and daughter Mindy Fisher, grandchildren Angela Corson (Steven Black) Hannah Herbster and Andrew Herbster.
