Obituary

James Lester Sherman, 81, of Vero Beach, died Saturday, September 24, 2011.

He was born August 19, 1930 in Chicago, IL. He had been a resident of Vero Beach for 3 years, coming from Barefoot Bay.

Mr. Sherman served in the United States Army during the Korean War in the 72nd Tank Division.

He was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Sebastian. Also, he was a member of Masonic Lodge #85 in Eustis, FL.

Prior to his retirement James worked as an independent truck driver.

Survivors include his sons; Timothy J. Sherman of Marion, NC, Michael D. Sherman of Vero Beach, Lenny Nielsen of Birmingham, AL; daughters, Terry Ann Futch, Tracy Sanford, Peggy Sherman-Bennett all of Vero Beach, Karen Herren of Palm Bay; sisters, Miriam Volheim and Geraldine DuBuque both of Morrison, CO; eighteen grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Alma Sherman; parents, Harold and Frances; brother, Harold L. Sherman Jr.; and sisters, Etta Allen and Catherine Martin.

Services: A visitation will be held at Seawinds Funeral Home on Saturday, October 1, 2011 from 4-6PM, with a service beginning at 6 PM. Interment will take place on Monday, October 3, 2011 at 9:45AM at South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth.
