Obituary

Marie Jeanne Levesque passed away on December 19, 2022.  Born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, the year the Social Security Act was signed into law, she was the daughter of Wilfred and Rose Anna (Belanger) Chapdelaine.  As a child, she was renowned for taking home both stray cats and those that had families...which were later returned to their rightful owners.  She spent her teen years as a champion skater at Joyland, then worked for Blackstone Potato Chip Company, enjoying her job one chip at a time.

On November 22, 1956, Jeanne married Lawrence Levesque, whose birthday, coincidentally, was the day of her passing.  Their union brought about two children and lasted an amazing 63 years until Larry's death in 2020.  She had a little known third child...a cat named Fonzie, who she adored for decades after his passing.  Her first language was French, and she loved talking to her sisters on the phone in her native language, especially in front of her children who had no idea what she was saying!

Jeanne was a locally renown coupon queen who hosted coupon swapping parties.  She relished crossword puzzles and playing cards.  She could recite the birth dates of nearly everyone she met.  Later in the nursing home, she knew the nurses' birthdays even if she could not recall their names!  She had a philanthropic side, delivering meals on wheels, transporting people to appointments and errands, watching neighborhood children and donating to many religious charities.  She enjoyed making thin pancakes, especially for her nieces and nephews during stays at Buzzards Bay.  Her meat pies during the holidays were always a treat.  Her beef stew, well, not so much.

She was a lifelong Catholic, a parishioner of St. Louis Church in Woonsocket and recently of St. Lukes in Barefoot Bay.  She received the sacrament of last rites from Father John of Ascension Church two hours before she passed.

Jeanne is survived by her two children, Gail Levesque Briscoe (James) and Bruce Levesque (Karen); four granddaughters, Melissa Wells (Johnathan), Kimberly Millette, Holly Millette and Sarah Millette; three grandsons, Christopher Levesque, Robert (Jennifer) Levesque and Matthew (Kate) Levesque; three great-grandsons, Caleb Wells, Jacob Wells and Joshua Wells; sister Therese and many nieces and nephews!  She is predeceased by her husband Larry, her parents, her other brothers and sisters, and her cat Fonzie.

When the weather is warmer, there will be a celebration of a life well lived at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, Florida.  In lieu of flowers, please hug a child, call a loved one, help someone less fortunate, pet a cat.
