IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joe
Giancaspro
July 20, 1951 – March 29, 2025
Joe Giancaspro, a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, left this world the night of March 29th, surrounded by his loved ones, after a courageous battle with cholangiocarcinoma. Joe was a man whose life was filled with love, laughter, and a passion for the things that brought him joy. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Joe was born and raised in the vibrant, mile-square city of Hoboken, New Jersey. He spent his formative years alongside his beloved sister, Linda, and was raised by his doting parents, Marge and Frank. The Giancaspro family shared countless treasured memories, especially those summers spent with their cousins, the Della Faves, in Cedarwood Park, near the Jersey Shore. Those childhood experiences shaped Joe's love of family, adventure, and music.
Music, in particular, was a lifelong passion for Joe. His love for rock and roll began in his teenage years when he attended concerts in the heart of New York City at iconic venues like the Fillmore East and The Bottom Line. Perhaps the pinnacle of his musical journey was his unforgettable experience at Woodstock in 1969. Throughout his life, Joe continued to share his love of live music with his family. Even after his diagnosis, he and his family attended countless concerts—each more special than the last. From Bruce Springsteen to The Avett Brothers, Joe Bonamassa to The Rolling Stones, Joe's spirit remained as lively as ever, whether in Florida, Philadelphia, New York, North Carolina, or Colorado.
A cherished part of Joe's life was his time in New York City in the 1970s and 80s, where he and his wife, Claire, formed lasting friendships with the "Wagner Gang." Joe's entrepreneurial spirit shone through during his career as the owner and operator of Barnstaple Transportation, where he spent over 30 years logging nearly 100,000 miles annually, delivering freight throughout the US.
Joe's adventures extended far beyond the United States. He and Claire traveled to Europe to visit old friends and even explored Rodi, Italy—the town where his grandparents once lived before emigrating to America. One of Joe's most memorable trips was to Tuscany in 2017, where he and his cousins, Joe and Bobby, spent time eating, drinking, and exploring the beauty of Italy. These memories, rich with love and laughter, will forever remain in the hearts of those who shared in those experiences with him.
In 1980, while on a hiking trip through the Grand Canyon, they found themselves in Big Sur, California. It was there that Joe began to develop what would be a lifelong passion for red wine, after tasting his first Zinfandel from Ridge Vineyards. His love for wine became more than a personal indulgence; it was a journey into a world of vineyards, regions, and rich history. His deep knowledge of wines was matched only by his dedication to sharing this passion with others. Joe's "wine cellar," a treasure trove of bottles dating back to the 1980s, became the heart of family gatherings, particularly at Christmas when he delighted in opening a well-aged bottle of Zinfandel to share with 20-30 of his closest family and friends. Joe's love for wine introduced him to the Vero Beach "Wine Gang" where Joe and his family spent many holidays, weekend get togethers, pizza nights, and any other reason to gather. Countless stories were shared, laughs were had, friendships were formed and, of course, wine was enjoyed. Through the "Wine Gang" Joe was introduced to Rob and Michelle which led to him being a permanent figure at Varietals, where his sophisticated palate and deep knowledge made him an invaluable member of the Team. Joe's tenure at Varietal's brought a great new purpose to his post-retirement life and lead to many new, wonderful, lasting friendships with those who came in regularly.
Joe was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Claire, and an incredibly proud father to his son, Joseph. Joe embraced Joseph's fiancée, Yoana, as a beloved member of the Giancaspro family. Throughout his illness, Joe fought with remarkable strength and grace, surrounded by the unwavering support of his family and friends, including his lifelong friends, Patrick and Eva, and Carl and Georgette, who opened their homes to the Giancaspro family during Joe's treatment in Tampa and Miami.
Joe's memory will live on through his loving wife, Claire, his son, Joseph W., and his extended family, including his sister, Linda Kelly, and brother-in-law, Tom Kelly, of Vero Beach, FL; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Liz and Bill Payne, of Sebastian, FL; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Nancy Sluys, of North Carolina; as well as his four nieces, one nephew, and many first cousins, aunts, and uncles.
A service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, April 12th. Doors will open at 2:00 pm, with the service beginning promptly at 3:00 pm at Seawinds Funeral Home, 735 S Fleming St, Sebastian, FL 32958.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local Hospice.
The family invites those who wish to share messages, memories, or stories to visit Joe's memorial page. Joe's spirit and love for life will forever be remembered, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Rest in peace, Joe. You will always be in our hearts.
