Obituary

John F. Barrett Jr., of Barefoot Bay FL, passed away, June 8th, 2017 with his family at his side.

He was born to Dr. John F. Barrett and Mary Curry Barrett in Plainfield, NJ on February 19, 1939. John graduated from Lyndon High School in NJ, where his father was Principal. He attended Rutgers University his freshman year and graduated from the University of Vermont with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce and Economics. He was married to Carole Lumbra Barrett July 6th, 1963.  They lived in the same house: 1 Buckingham Dr. Colchester, VT until they retired as snowbirds and moved to Florida in 2004. They lived in the Mallets Bay Campground 6 months & Barefoot Bay 6 months.

John is survived by his wife Carole Barrett and their children: Kimberly Constance Barrett of South Burlington, VT, John Franklin Barrett III and his wife Kerry Barrett of Sparta NJ and Bridgette Barrett Fuller and her husband Travis Fuller of Weare NH.  He also has five grandchildren:  Avery Barrett, John F. Barrett IV, Benjamin Barrett, Oliver Fuller and Anna Fuller.

John was proud to be a boy scout when he was a boy and attributes this to his great scout leaders for encouraging him to become an eagle scout. John loved football and played through high school and the first year of college. He learned to garden from his father and planted a beautiful garden for several years. He spent many hours on Lake Champlain in his 1971 Star Craft boat fishing.  He loved his dog Goose. He trained, competed and hunted with him for many years.

First Lieutenant John F. Barrett Jr., was a Radar Intercept Officer with the VT Air National Guard & US Air Force.  He flew in the F89. He also became a Registered Public Accountant. He joined PF Jurggs & Co.  after college. John then became Vice President of Champlain Valley Fruit Company and ran the Accounting Department. He then helped establish Barrett, Lampson & Hanley Accountants; retiring from Barrett Accounting Firm at home.

John was a member of the Elks Club; Ducks Unlimited; Ethan Allen Club; Green Mt. Wilderness Club and the Champlain Valley Retriever's Club.

A small celebration of John's life was held on June 10 th , 2017 in FL and a small celebration of life and distribution of John's ashes was held in August, in VT, with immediate family and very close friends.
