Obituary

John Robert Hucek Jr, 78, of Sebastian, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2024, peacefully at home with his family by his side.

He was born on August 31, 1946, to the late John R Hucek Sr and Elizabeth Thiry in Algoma, Wisconsin. John graduated from Algoma High School in 1964. John joined the United States Air Force right out of HS. While in basic training he was the winner of the sharpshooting award. Then he was assigned to the air police until a medical set back. After John recovered from surgery, he decided he wanted to be a dentist. He spent the next few years traveling the US working towards his dreams. In 1968 he moved to Homestead, Florida Air Force base, where he met the love of his life, the late great Caroline "Carol". Married in 6 weeks of meeting each other, John took Carol to Wisconsin to meet the family. While there he broke his neck. He was paralyzed from the neck down and was told he would never walk again. He was then honorably discharged from the Air Force and designated as 100% disabled. The strong-willed man never gave up. After 2 years of rehab, he learned to walk again. He received an AS degree in Architectural Engineering, May 6, 1972. Then on September 27, 1972, his daughter was born, and on April 16, 1977, his son was born.

John decided that he did not want to sit behind a desk doing architecture, even though he was an amazing sketch artist. He decided to get into the grocery business, where him and my Uncle George ran stores for many years. In 1993, John moved to Sebastian, Florida. For many years, until 2013, he was a manager at the Vero Beach Dodger Town. From 2013 until his passing, John had battled and won extensive medical issues.
John was the sweetest, kindest gentleman you could ever meet. He was an angel on earth, touched the lives of everyone. John was the man that did for everyone and did not expect anything in return. It made him happy to see the joy in people's faces. He loved to donate to multiple charities including: St Jude's, Make A Wish foundation, and Veterans programs.

John is survived by his daughter, Cindy Carlson, and her husband, Ron Carlson, of Sebastian; his son, John R Hucek III of Sebastian; siblings Craig, Cheryl, & Chuck from up North; four grandchildren, Steven, Amber, Owen, & Connor; and two great grandchildren, Olivia & Caden. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews with whom he was very close.

His memorial service will be held on Monday, December 23, 2024, from 1-3 pm, including visitation from 1:00-2:00pm and a veteran-honored service from 2:00-3:00pm. Friends and family are then welcome to gather at CC's Place in Sebastian, FL following the ceremony to continue honoring the memory of John.

John's wishes were to be cremated, and he would like his final resting place to be in the Florida Keys. Besides the love he had for everyone, he loved fishing, watching movies, and listening to music.
