John Leonard Nagelhout passed away at home surrounded by his family on January 16, 2015 in Sebastian, FL at the age of 89.
John was born September 22, 1925 in Ridgewood, NJ. While at Ridgewood High School, John was scouted by Major League baseball and signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers and Pittsburg Pirates. He received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Marines in 1945, having served on Guadalcanal with the 6th division. John worked as a patrolman with the Ridgewood Police Department for 13 years; and also retired from Tristate Driver with Faber Cement Co. and was a member of the Teamsters Union.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Effie (VanDien) Nagelhout; daughters Laura Saal, Jana Pruden (Barrie), Kim Lubarsky (Alex); three grandchildren William J. Saal, Juliana Saal, Dra Lubarsky; and his brother Andrew Nagelhout (Marion) of Rhode Island. He was preceded in death by his son, Drew Douglas Nagelhout, and his parents Andrew and Jenny (Shortway) Nagelhout.
John, Effie and all four children were graduates of Ridgewood High School.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, January 26th, 2015 at Friendship Christian Community Church, 611 Schuman Drive, Sebastian. Honors will be provided American Legion of Sebastian, Fl.
