John R. West Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026, at VNA Hospice, following a courageous battle with glioblastoma. Born on May 18, 1963, in Long Branch, New Jersey, John was the cherished son of Jane B. West and the late James F. West. 

John's life was a testament to hard work, love, and laughter. He attended Long Branch High School, where he laid the foundation for a life filled with dedication and perseverance. His career spanned several roles, from bouncer and laborer to heavy machine operator, but it was as a Pipe Foreman with Jr. Davis Construction that John truly found his calling. He poured his heart into his work, ensuring every task was executed to perfection. His commitment to excellence was an inspiration, particularly to his sons, John Jr. and Son in law Grant, who had the privilege of working alongside him and learning the true meaning of hard work. 

In matters of the heart, John was blessed with an enduring love story. He married Kathy Karinja-West on October 5, 2018, after a reunion that rekindled their youthful connection, and together they shared 15 wonderful years, united by a love that transcended time. 

John's zest for life was evident in his hobbies and interests. He relished off-roading adventures, casting a line while fishing, and spending cherished moments with his family. His three pit bulls, Tank, Diesel, and Diva, held a special place in his heart, embodying the loyalty and affection that John so generously extended to those around him. 

Known for his quick wit and warm smile, John had a remarkable ability to bring joy to others. His humor was infectious, and he never missed an opportunity to share a good joke, making everyone feel welcome and valued. John's kindness and generosity left an indelible mark on the lives he touched, earning him the love and admiration of all who knew him. 

John is survived by his devoted wife, Kathy; his loving mother, Jane; his brother, James; and his children: John R. West Jr. and his wife Cortney, Dylan West and his wife Erica, and Danielle Ihnen and Grant. He was the proud grandfather of six beautiful grandchildren: Rylin, Callie, Ashton, Logan, Carson, and Memphis, who will carry forward the legacy of love and laughter that he bestowed upon them. 

In tribute to John's life and spirit, his family invites you to a Celebration of Life on October 3rd at the Italian American Club on 512 in Sebastian, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in John's honor. 

John R. West Sr.'s memory will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life was a testament to the power of love, laughter, and hard work, and his spirit will continue to inspire and guide those who loved him.
