Obituary

SEBASTIAN- Joseph A. Hirbour, 87, formerly of Middlebury, CT, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 14th, 2025 with his devoted and loving wife, Diane M. Hirbour, by his side.

Joe was the son of the late Hector and Cecile Hirbour. He grew up in Middlebury, CT and graduated from Scared Heart High School in Waterbury, CT. He then joined the US Marine Corp where he honorably served for 6 years. He went on to earn an associate's degree in business.

Throughout his career, he was employed by the Middlebury Police Department, Timex, SNET, and Yale University. He made wonderful friends that he stayed in touch with through the years. Joe loved his family and friends dearly and treasured phone calls catching up with them. He was a loving mentor and great listener. He always had a positive outlook on life and was steady through the difficult times.

Joe grew up with a love of playing and watching baseball. In high school, he was scouted as a left-handed pitcher by the New York Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, New York Giants and UConn Huskies women's basketball. Joe was a communicant of St. Sebastian Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gourmet cooking, and fine wines. He lovingly shared recipes and his vast cooking knowledge and tips. He was a true foodie in every way.

He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Hirbour and four sisters, Helene Delahunty, Isabelle McNamara, Jeanine Brasile, and Lucille Brennan. Joe is survived by his two daughters Michelle (Chuck) Fricke of Nebraska, and Suzanne Hirbour; two stepsons Jeromie (Erin) Schumacher of Bethlehem, CT; and Jason (Michelle) Schumacher of Wolcott, CT. He is also survived by five step grandchildren Joshua, Rebekah, Rachel, Leah, and Myles, and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, January 24th at 11 a.m. at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 13075 US-1, Sebastian, FL 32958. There are no calling hours.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Sebastian Catholic Church.
