Obituary

Joyce Ellen Quaife, 87 of Sebastian, passed away on Tuesday, May 9th. She was at home with family members by her side as she left her earthly home to be with her heavenly Father.

She was born to the late Rev. H. William and Frances R. B. (Quaife) Flemming on November 22, 1929 in Berkley, Ca. As a child, Joyce lived in many places in the U. S. with her parents while they were performing their work as missionaries and clergy. She graduated from high school in 1947, and attended Multnomah Bible College for one year before she married the late Thomas W. Quaife in January, 1949. They lived in several locations within California and Arizona prior to their retirements in 1996; leaving Porterville, Ca. in August to move to Yuma, Az to be with a daughter and her family. Thomas preceded her in death in February 1998, and Joyce relocated with her daughter to Sebastian, Fl in November of 1998.

Joyce worked as a book keeper and medical office assistant for many years, and retired from Sierra View District Hospital in Porterville, Ca as a Medical Unit Secretary. She enjoyed working in the medical field and took pride in taking care of people.

Joyce spent her free time knitting, sewing, playing the piano or organ, and she also loved to garden. She had a strong faith and attended services at Shiloh Youth Ranch in Sebastian where she played the piano or organ for the services for many years. Her good friend Everett Pearsall shared fellowship with her many times and would make sure she was able to attend services after she could no longer drive.

Joyce was also preceded in death by her sister Rebecca Cross of Oregon, one great-grandchild, Jayden Thomas Porter (James) of Sebastian, and is survived by a brother William Flemming of Albany, Or, and her children: Cheryl (Dennis) Sager of Bakersfield, Ca; Laura Quaife of Tucson, Az; Harvey (Sue) Quaife of Vancouver, Wa; Terry Quaife of Redding, Ca; Gerald Quaife of Montgomery Creek, Ca; Cindy (Justin) Baker of Palo Cedro, Ca; Frances (Pete) Forman of Bullhead City/Payson, Az; and Milbrie (John) Porter of Sebastian, Fl. She is also survived by 28 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

The family will have a private remembrance locally, with internment and a memorial service at Redding Memorial Park, to be held in Redding, Ca at a later date in June.
