Karen Alice (Stevenson) West, 87, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2026, in Florida, where she had made her home for the past 33 years. She was born on October 6, 1938, in Braintree, Massachusetts, to George and Mildred Stevenson nee Cooper.
Karen grew up in Braintree, Massachusetts, where she met her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, David West. Together they shared sixty-four wonderful years of marriage before David preceded her in death. They built a beautiful life together, raising their family in Harvard, Massachusetts, before retiring to Sebastian, Florida.
Retirement brought Karen and David the opportunity to enjoy one of their greatest passions - traveling together. They also became active members of the Sebastian Power Squadron, where they enjoyed boating, and formed lasting friendships, and remained active in their community.
A lifelong educator, Karen devoted her career to serving children and families throughout Massachusetts. As Director of Special Education in Clinton, Massachusetts, she was among the first women to serve as an educational administrator in the state, helping pave the way for future generations of women in educational leadership. She was respected for her intelligence, compassion, and unwavering commitment to ensuring every child had the opportunity to succeed.
Karen is survived by her children, Daniel West, Craig West, and Kris (Kevin) Devaney; her siblings, Skip (Peg) Stevenson and Connie (Bill) Billings; To her eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, she was simply “Moz”—a name spoken with love that reflected the special bond they shared and all of whom brought her immeasurable joy.
Karen will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family, her pioneering career in education, and the kindness, grace, and quiet strength she shared with everyone, fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy of love, service, and perseverance lives on through the countless lives she touched, the students and families she served, and the family she treasured so deeply.
In addition to her beloved husband, David West, she was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mildred Stevenson.
Karen’s family finds comfort in knowing that her life was one of love, purpose, adventure, and selfless dedication to others. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
