Lydia Anne Mead Batey, age 97 passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Angel Care at Vero Beach Assisted Living Facility in Vero Beach, Florida. She was born on May 29, 1919 in Delaware, Ohio, and moved to Florida in 1931 where she graduated from FSU and married her husband of 55 years, Robert "Bob" Batey. She taught elementary school in Gainesville, and with her husband, helped establish Faith Methodist Church and Southwest Methodist Church, where she served as the organist. She was also an active member of the Gainesville Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Batey, her sister, Jessie Pittington, and her parents, Dr. & Mrs. A.R. Mead. She is survived by her daughter, Mae Hawkins, her son, Robert M. Batey, grandchildren Sean & Kyle Hawkins, and Lisa Batey and 4 great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Archer, Florida.
