Maria Teresa Hernandez, 84, of Sebastian, passed peacefully on Sunday, September 7 in her home.

Teresa was born in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico to Rufino Soto and Juana Torres. When she was a teenager, the family relocated to Bronx, New York. There she met and married Raul Hernandez, her spouse of 62 years. She was a stay-at-home mom for 15 years before she entered the workforce making belts and was a member of the International Ladies Garments Workers Union. When her husband retired, they relocated to Sebastian. Teresa was known best for her love of family and gardening. She didn't just grow the common mango, orange, and avocado trees. She also grew cinnamon, lychee, cashews, almonds, soursop, sugar apples, and many other plants and trees. Teresa was also an excellent seamstress who sewed the items that adorned her home. She made her own curtains, tablecloths, bedspreads, and clothing.  But nothing was more important to her than spending time with family. She loved having large family gatherings and cooking traditional Puerto Rican meals for those she loved.

Teresa is survived by her husband Raul Hernandez, daughter Maria Minerva Hernandez, granddaughter Angela Maria Jawhar, great-grandsons, Jahsiyah Murray and Elijah Murray, sisters Anna Badillo and Cruz Maria Oquendo, brothers Luis Armando Torres, George Antonio Oquendo, and Pedro Antonio Oquendo, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 10th from 1:00 to 3:00 at Seawinds Funeral Home in Sebastian followed by a Prayer Service.
