Obituary

Marilyn Alice Hagan Coyne, 96, passed peacefully at home in Sebastian, FL on June 11, 2022.

Born September 4, 1925, in Boston, MA, she was raised in Somerville. It was there that she met and married the love of her life, Edward James Coyne. Marilyn and Ed began a family and moved to Lexington, MA where they would raise their five children. Marilyn happily took on the role of mother and homemaker until the untimely death of her husband in 1958. In order to support her family Marilyn began a career in the cosmetics field at Filene's which eventually led to the job she loved most of all, managing Colonial Stores in Lexington.

Upon retiring Marilyn spent time living in Centerville, MA, Naples, FL,  Sagamore Beach, MA, and Sebastian, FL. While living in Sagamore Beach Marilyn was a valued member of two groups that met in Sandwich on Mondays and Osterville on Fridays. She made many cherished friends in those halls. She also made many great friends in her Sagamore Highlands neighborhood. In her final home at Park Place in Sebastian she did her best to stay active in her community and enjoyed the support of many fine friends. Marilyn was an avid reader. She also enjoyed painting, knitting and shopping. But most of all she enjoyed spending time in the company of family and friends who fondly remember her as GG. She will be missed by so many.

Marilyn is predeceased by her husband Edward J Coyne; her parents, James Edward Hagan and Alice May Cameron Johnson, and her step father Samuel Bennett Robertson. She sadly lost her devoted son, Robert Edward Coyne, ten days before her own death. Marilyn passed away on the 33rd anniversary of the passing of her beloved grandson Carter Scott Lyman. She is also predeceased by her son-in-law Robert Spalding with whom she lived in Sagamore and shared a special relationship.

GG is survived by four daughters: Susan Spalding, Linda Lyman, Marilyn (Pixie) Coyne and Cyndi Coyne. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren: Robert (Sharlene), Tracy (Robert), Kelly (Roger), David, Kerry, Sean, Ashley, Courtney (Clayton), Keston (Mia), Samantha (Jed), Christopher (Erika), Lindsay (Erik) and Theo (Melanie). There are nineteen great grandchildren: Michael (Jackie), Danielle, Emma (Chris), Quinn, Braegan, Darcy, Clayton, Austin, Slater, Addison, Ryder, Sutton, Ledger, Xavier, Asmeda, Shannon, David, Harper and Boston. And remarkably there are also two great-great grandchildren: Hendrix and Mateo. She is also survived by her Canadian cousins Anne, Lorna and Doreen.

Marilyn will be laid to rest beside her husband, Ed Coyne, in Westview Cemetery, Lexington, MA.
