Mary Beth Moore Stiglin passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 22 in Sebastian, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents Michael J. Moore and Anne (Raftery) Moore and her sister Joan (Moore) Quain. Mary Beth had just celebrated her 79th birthday. She is survived by her beloved husband of 23 years John P. ("Jack") Stiglin and her sister Eileen (Moore) Emery of Fort PIerce, FL.
Mary Beth will be deeply missed by her four children and their families: Ken and Kay Graap (Waleska, GA), Mary Anne and Todd Shelton (Christiansburg, VA), Jenny Graap and Dan Allen (Ithaca, NY) and Ellen Graap Loth and Jeff Loth (Afton, VA). She was very proud of her 5 grandchildren: Steven (and wife Jantzyn) Shelton, Michael Shelton, Rheannon Loth, Faron Loth, and Kyra Graap. Many nieces, nephews and cherished friends will miss her.
Mary Beth grew up in Tarrytown, NY, raised her children in West Chester, PA; moved to Fort Pierce, FL, and then Crossville, TN. While in Florida she attended Indian River Community College, earning an associate's degree in business administration. She served as President of Ocean Village's Villas 1 condo association for four years and as Director on the Property Owners Association Board. She was very active in local politics and was the first female township supervisor in the 300-year history of Thornbury Township, Delaware County, PA.
She loved gardening, jigsaw puzzles, and playing bridge with friends. She was often the loudest parent on the sports sidelines cheering for her kids. An avid golfer throughout her life, she enjoyed volleyball and tennis in her younger years. More recently she hit the links with the 'Bogie Babes' of Fairfield Glade and became (in)famous for her outdoor bar along the 8th fairway of the Heatherhurst Brae golf course during the Women's Invitational. Mary Beth loved to host holiday parties, and her pumpkin and apple pies were legendary. She was proud of her Irish heritage and never failed to dress the part for St Patrick's day, green hair included. Her favorite holiday was Halloween, and she was known for her creative and politically incorrect costumes. She treasured far away adventures. She and Jack toured Ireland and Scotland in 2015.
Mary Beth was a breast cancer survivor. She organized and ran golf tournaments in Tennessee to fundraise for the Cumberland Medical Center Cancer fund.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the American Cancer Society in honor of Mary Beth Stiglin. Direct donation cheques may be made to the Cumberland Medical Center Cancer Fund and sent to Cumberland Medical Center Regional Cancer Center at 421 South Main Street Crossville, TN 38555
