Maureen Catherine Barbatelli, née Lucan, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at the age of 72.  She is survived by her loving daughters, Elisabeth Clark Moody and Christa Clark, son-in-law Charles Moody, and two beautiful granddaughters, Victoria Jean and Camille Rose.

Maureen was born on March 20, 1946 in Manhattan and grew up in Parkchester in the Bronx.  She moved to Fort Pierce, Florida in 1974, and has lived in Florida ever since.

Maureen was a caring and nurturing mother to her girls, and made their needs and happiness her priority.  She supported her older daughter Elisabeth throughout her extensive schooling, in her practice as a speech-language pathologist, and through the journey of motherhood.  Maureen also devoted much of her life to the care of her younger daughter, Christa, making sure that all of her special needs were met. Because of Maureen's tireless work on behalf of her daughter and other people with special needs, Christa has a rich and joyful life filled with love and opportunity.  Maureen also mothered everyone around her and was a consummate hostess. In a kitchen often filled with her Italian specialties, no one was ever, ever allowed to leave hungry.

In March of 2004, Maureen's first grandchild, Tori, was born and a new chapter in her life began as she became "Meemah."  Any visitor to her home who sees the dozens of pictures of her granddaughters on display can attest to the fact that Maureen adored her granddaughters and took great joy in being an important part of their lives.  She leaves them with a lifetime's worth of happy memories and love.

Outside of her family, one of the great loves of Maureen's life was travel.  She loved returning to her roots with trips to New York and to Italy and especially loved to take cruises.  As the photos prove, dinner with the ship's captain always found her dressed with all the movie star glamour she was known for all her life.

From the time she was young, that signature glamour was an important part of Maureen's personality, and she always surrounded herself with beauty.  She loved the flowers in her garden, ornate seashells on the beach, a glittering necklace, a swag of rich fabric, a marble bust, the pastel shades of Florida-- particularly peach and teal, and never hesitated to add more ribbon, doilies, lace, pearls, and sparkle to her environment.

Maureen was also a great lover of the "Oldies," the music and movies from her youth.  She loved classic black and white movies and romantic stories and songs, and filled her screens with lovable heroines who overcame adversity with panache and heart.  This is fitting, because Maureen Barbatelli's life was an adventure in which she pushed past the challenges with love, courage, joy, and style. As her adventure continues in heaven. she will be forever missed by all who loved her.
