Michael Francis Jakemer, Age 70 of Barefoot Bay, Florida also known as Captain Mike passed away on November 14th. Michael was born November 3rd, 1945, to the late Michael M. Jakemer & Margaret W. Ferris Jakemer in The Bronx, New York.
Captain Mike graduated from Willingboro High School, Willingboro, NJ in 1964 and then honorably served our country in the United States Navy in the field of communications as a radioman and served on the USS Vesole during the Vietnam Conflict.
After leaving the U.S. Navy, Captain Mike continued in the field of communications as a salesman for Western Union, Superior Teletype Corporation & Burlington County Business Machines of Mt. Holly, NJ.
While not a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy, Michael was known by the nickname of Captain Mike.
In August 1966, Michael married Edie Kramer of Willingboro, NJ. They recently celebrated their 49th anniversary.
Throughout his life, Captain Mike was an accomplished musician and guitarist, Elvis impersonator, Karaoke Jockey and all around excellent entertainer. Captain Mike was the life of the party and one of his greatest passions was showing people a good time. For the last two decades, Mike & Edie had been entertaining as "Captain Mike & Edie".
Captain Mike is survived by his loving & devoted wife Edie Jakemer of Barefoot Bay; his son, Michael F. Jakemer, Jr. of Houston, Texas; his daughter Michele Lee (Keith) Thompson of Bonner's Ferry, Idaho; Grandson Bradley Matthew Thompson of Moscow, Idaho. He is also survived by his two sisters Lorraine (Angelo) Kraniotis of Vineland, NJ; Joyce (Fred) Bernardini of Pittsgrove, NJ; and his loving & devoted 4 legged sidekick "Shadow of Brigantine", a Lhasa Opso.
While in New Jersey, Captain Mike was associated with the following organizations: The American Legion, V.F.W. & Elk's Lodge, all of Brigantine, NJ.
After moving to Barefoot Bay in 2007, Captain Mike became an active member of The Fraternal Order of Orioles, Nest 272, The V.F.W. as a Life Member & Fraternal Order of Eagles where he was the Secretary of Post 4527 for the past 4 years.
Captain Mike touched the lives of so many in such a positive way bringing joy and entertainment to those he loved. . His family has been moved and honored by the outpouring of love and sentiments being received from the multitudes of loved ones, family, friends and neighbors that he had come to know over the 70 years of his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 8820 US 1, Micco, Florida 32976 in the name of Mike Jakemer.
