Pearl Emma Williams a long-time resident of Sebastian, Florida, passed away on
Friday, March 24th .

Pearl, a woman with a true servant's heart will be remembered as a joyful,
encouraging person who was loving and welcoming to everyone she came in
contact. Most of all she will be remembered as a loving and dedicated mother,
grandmother, aunt and friend.

Born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Atwell and Pearl Jones on October 14 th , 1926,
Pearl spent most of her childhood on Saint Johns Place Brooklyn, NY where she
attended PS 167 as a a little girl with all other 6 siblings. She would also visit the
Poospatuck Indian Reservation in Mastic, Suffolk County NY where her
Grandmother Rosa Edwards resided and was a Baptist preacher. Pearl referred to
her grandmother as "her Other Mama" and credited her rich heritage to the time
she spent in the church and on the reservation.
Pearl was the last of her generation of siblings to survive The Jones family. Pearl
was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 45 years, Willie
Junius Williams Jr. who she wed in August of 1945. The couple had four children;
Willie Junius "Junior" Williams Jr III, Zachary Williams (who died as an infant),
Daryle Candice "Dee" Mckenzie, and Steven Williams (who passed away 1970).
While raising her children Pearl had several occupations before landing a job with
the Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, as a nurse's aide, where she
gave special care and compassion to all of her patients. She retired after 25 years
of dedication and service.

In 1992, 2 years after the passing of her husband Willie, Pearl decided to move to
Sebastian, Florida to be closer to her daughter Dee and son in law Leroy
McKenzie. Being the lively and active person she was, she quickly became
connected in her new community where she received numerous awards for her
volunteerism and involvement. She was a member and volunteer with the
Disabled American Commanders Club, American Legion Auxiliary (Post 189), and
the Senior Resource Adult Day Care Association where she became the honorary
welcome committee for new members.

Pearl loved to be alert in body and mind. She challenged herself with daily
crossword puzzles, reading about current events, was a member of the pottery
club, the Tai Chi club and the Happy Hoofers, line dance troupe where she earned
the nick name "Pretty Pearl" for her devotion and passion for line dancing.
Thanks to her upbringing in the church, Pearl always knew the Lord, however it
wasn't until her later years when she fully committed her entire life to Him. Her
motto was, "Love God the Father and serve and love others that are put in your
path." She did not always have the perfect words to describe her relationship and
love for God, but she was excellent at modeling a life that demonstrated God's
love to all those she came in contact with. So many of the people "Pretty Pearl"
touched said she will be remembered as a person who brought great joy and was
a major source of encouragement in their life.

Pearl is survived by her son, Willie Junius Williams Jr III, and his wife Rosetta of
Plainfield, New Jersey, her Daughter, Daryl Candice Mckenzie and her husband,
Lee of Sebastian Florida; 5 loving grandchildren, Davida Mendez, Janine Williams,
Craig Wilburn, William McKellar, and Kim Prude; 11 great grandchildren, 1 great,
great grandchild not to mention dozens and dozens of nieces, nephews and
countless friends.

A Gathering is scheduled for 10:00 am, Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Seawinds Funeral Home, 735 S. Fleming St, Sebastian, FL, 32958 with a Memorial Service to follow at 11:00 am.
