IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard Paul
Carpenter, Sr
May 27, 1936 – December 27, 2023
Richard Paul Carpenter Sr., known to all by "Dick": A Life Lived to the Fullest.
Dick, a kind soul with a deep love for the sea, delicious culinary meals and flourishing vibrant gardens, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2023 at the age of 87 joining his previously deceased son, Richard Paul Carpenter, Jr. Born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts on May 27, 1936, Dick's adventurous spirit led him to proudly enlist in the United States Navy on June 4, 1956, where he proudly served for six years on the USS Howard W. Gilmore (AS-16) with the rank of CSG3. He saw the world during his service, forging unforgettable memories with fellow sailors and developing lifelong friendships.
After his honorable discharge on April 5, 1962, Dick's culinary talents were equally impressive. After graduating with a Culinary Arts degree from Johnson & Wales University, Dick honed his culinary skills where he learned to transform fresh ingredients into mouthwatering dishes.
Dick's faith was an anchor in his life. He was deeply involved in his church, Saint Luke's Catholic Church, where he actively volunteered at the thrift store, offering his time and compassion to working together with the staff to make sure the store ran smoothly. He was a pillar of the community, known for his kindness and unwavering dedication to the church and his friends.
Dick's love for nature blossomed when he meticulously cultivated breathtaking flower and vegetable gardens, earning him the title of Master Gardener. His expertise and passion were evident in the flourishing gardens he created, bringing beauty and joy to his community garden in Barefoot Bay. Dick always used fresh ingredients from his garden when he cooked for family and friends. He enjoyed filling their lives with love, laughter, and delicious culinary delights. In his spare time he enjoyed going on over 59 cruises in his lifetime.
Dick will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and zest for life.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie Carpenter, his daughter Cheryl Mulhern, his son Michael Carpenter and his grandchildren Jordyn Mulhern, Mary & Mikey Carpenter, Storey Libby, Christina Potter and Jason Jensen.
A memorial service for Dick was performed on a US Navy Ship where his ashes were spread at sea. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St Luke's Catholic Church, Barefoot Bay, Florida.
