Richard Gavitt, 86, passed away July 18, at his home.
He was born in Derby, Connecticut, the youngest of 5 children. He served 3 years in the Navy on the Submarine Burfish and attended the University of RI.
He married his wife Barbara in 1955. They moved to C.S. Colorado where they raised their family. Richard loved hunting and so came the Colorado mountains. He became an outfitter guide for primitive elk hunts on the Gore Range, in Dillon, CO. There were no motorized vehicles allowed so the hunt was on horses. After his retirement, they moved to the Florida Keys where fishing was great. They moved to Barefoot Bay in 2005.
Richard was pre-deceased by a daughter Diane, and a son Michael. He is survived by his wife Barbara, a son Glenn, daughter-in-law Rebecca, 5 grandchildren; Lesli, Devin, Conner, Amanda, and Shannon. He has 10 great grandchildren.
A celebration will be with family at a later date.
Donations can be made, if desired, to St Francis Hospice, 1250 Grumman Place, Titusville, FL 32780.
