With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Robert Douglas Ross, who departed this life on July 27th 2026 at the age of 95. Robert lived a life defined by honor, service, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy of courage, integrity, and compassion will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born to Gordon Shearer Ross and Martha S. Neil Ross, on May 7th, 1931 in Brooklyn, New York. He was one of eight children. Robert lived a life defined by love, kindness, strength, and devotion to family and friends. Whether through a warm smile, a listening ear, or a generous heart. He believed in treating everyone with compassion and respect, and that legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those he inspired.
Robert proudly served his country during the Korean War, in the United States Army, answering the call to duty with courage and selflessness. The values of honor, discipline, and commitment that he embraced during his military service remained with him throughout his life and were evident in everything he did.
Robert dedicated his career to protecting and serving his community as a police officer for 26 years at the Ramapo Police Department in Ramapo, New York. He approached his profession with courage, honor, and compassion, earning the respect of his colleagues and the gratitude of those whose lives he touched. His commitment to doing what was right reflected the strength of his character and his deep sense of duty.
While Robert’s career was a source of pride, his greatest joy came from his family. Married to Barbara Ann (Chase) Ross on June 16, 1956. They remained devoted to one another for 66 years, until her passing in August of 2022. Robert was a devoted father whose guidance, encouragement, and unconditional love shaped the lives of his five children. As a grandfather and great-grandfather, he delighted in every milestone, every laugh, and every opportunity to share his wisdom, stories, and support. His family was the center of his world, and the love he gave so freely will continue to live on in each of them.
Robert is lovingly survived by his sister Rosemary (Ross) Gough, his children, Robert Daniel Ross and wife Betty Ann, Kathleen Ross, Timothy Leroy Ross and wife Nancy, Paul Martin Ross, Jennifer Ann Shearer and husband Bill Shearer. His grandchildren, Amanda, Lisa, Timothy, Kearstin and husband Ed, Danielle, Kelly and husband Ryan, Chris, Michael, and Liam. Great grandchildren, Iley, Lily, Lucas, Riley, Alex, Kenzie, and Aiden.
While we mourn the loss of a remarkable life, we also celebrate the countless ways Robert enriched our lives. Though he may no longer walk beside us, his love, wisdom, and gentle spirit will remain with us always.
A celebration of life will be held at 11am on September 5th at Concordia Lutheran Church, 300 Barefoot Blvd, Barefoot Bay, FL 32976. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and celebrate a life so beautifully lived.
Forever loved. Deeply missed. Never forgotten.
