Obituary

Robert Stephen Borland (Bob), 93, of Port Saint Lucie, FL and Ocean City, MD, died Saturday, December 28.

Bob was born to the late Steven and Elizabeth Borland on November 5, 1931, in the small, western Pennsylvania coal mining town of Marianna.

Bob was proud to be the first generation of American-born Scottish immigrants.  Growing up, Bob enjoyed baseball, boxing, and time spent with his sisters - Jeannette, Betty, Jessie, Edie, and brother Tommy, all who predeceased him.  Bob honorably served in the Navy during the Korean War and was a master of short-hand. Though he received his Master's Degree and was a high school history teacher, guidance counselor, and administrator in MD schools and had built a home in Carroll County, MD, he was most proud of the time he spent in his early years as a coal miner with his father in the Marianna mine.

Bob loved spending time with his family and his late wife, Elayne.  He was passionate about history and treasure hunting. His favorite place to be was in the woods.  He was an avid deer and small game hunter.  Bob enjoyed summers on the Southern Outer Banks of NC and was proud to have his photography displayed in the NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores, cruising with Elayne, watching the Steelers, and browsing through antique stores.

Bob is survived by his children Robert (Deborah) S Borland Jr, Lisa (Bill) Crouse, Steven (Susan) Borland, Angela (Greg) Bashioum, and Bonnie (Patrick) Farrah.  Bob is also survived by eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Burial and a ceremony celebrating his life will be held in early summer.
