Obituary

Sophie Ann Cekala Nadolny, 88, of Barefoot Bay, FL, formerly Charlestown, RI, passed away on May 20th, 2013.

Sophie Ann Nadolny was born on September 21, 1924 in Hope Valley, RI, the daughter of Francis and Stephania Ulbin Cekala. She was the widow of Vincent J. Nadolny Sr. The couple lived in Hope Valley and Charlestown, RI until 1994 when they relocated to Barefoot Bay, Florida.

Sophie was a communicant of St. Joseph's Parish in Hope Valley where she was a member of the Rosary Alter Society for many years. She was also a long time member of the church choir. Sophie enjoyed organizing and directing many of the church fundraising productions involving church members. She was also a member of the Army-Navy Wives Club.

She worked for several years as a floor supervisor in a large retail chain and also worked for the Charlestown School district in the school lunch program. Later, as a homemaker, she was very active in volunteer programs. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader for many years. She was active in the Charlestown School PTA and also volunteered in the school Library.

Sophie enjoyed singing, gardening, reading, and she loved to play Bingo!

While living in Florida she was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church. She was a member of the Sebastian Moose Club and the Polish American Club.

She is survived by her brother, Edward J. Cekala and wife Roberty of Westerly, RI; her daughters, Johannah S. Varas and husband, Robert H. Varas of Ogunquit, ME and Grant, FL, Debra Holdredge and husband, David Brousseau of Wakefield, RI; and her grandchildren, Robert V. Varas of Maine and Florida, Danea Varas Sevigney of Maine and Florida, Vincent J. Nadolny III and wife, Serena of Sebastian, FL, Brien Nadolny and wife, Christine of Chicago, IL, Shawna B. Holdredge Smith and husband, Ryan of North Kingstown, RI, and Breck Holdredge and Danalyn Holdredge both of Wakefield, RI; four great grandchildren, Zachary Nadolny, Alexandra Campfield, Donald Griffing, all of Florida, and Lexus Hunter Sevigney of Maine. She had many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her son, Vincent J. Nadolny Jr. and her sister, Frances Cekala Morris.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Hope Valley at a later date. Inurnment will be at the Veterans Cemetery in Exeter, RI.
