Obituary

Susan Lynn Mesler, of Barefoot Bay, FL, and Berlin, VT, was a loving mother, companion, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend and professional educator who touched lives and meant a great deal to very many.

She was born on July 25, 1963 and graduated Northfield Jr. Sr. High School in 1981. She received her Bachelor's Degree from Norwich University and her Master's Degree in Specialized Education from Saint Michael's College.

Professionally she worked with children and adults with psychological and physical challenges unknown to most of us. She taught Special Education in local schools in Northfield, Calais, and Roxbury, Vermont, and most recently at Operation Hope in Fellsmere, Florida. She devoted herself to becoming a voice and an advocate for children and adults who may not have had one. Susan will be remembered for the impact she made in the peoples' lives she touched and the difference she made in them through her teaching.

From early on in life, Susan had a strong love for the arts, reading and a great talent for writing. She even had the honor of having some of her writing published in books, newspapers and magazines. She also loved trying anything fun and would pursue it to the fullest. Hiking, biking, kick boxing, rollerblading, swimming, kayaking, traveling, camping, and horseback riding were just a few of her favorite past times. If you went to visit her home in the summer she would be tending to her perennial gardens and listening to music while her dogs Cyrus and Lilly played in the yard. Or perhaps you could find her indoors likely reading a good book or maybe enjoying herself cooking. She loved to cook and few things made her as happy as cooking a big meal for all her family. Besides cooking, reading and writing, another great love of hers was music and everything about it: going to concerts, playing her guitar and singing. She even joined a rock band in her high school days.

She was a teacher, writer, musician, artist, animal lover, adventurer, advocate, and among other things, her biggest achievement in life was still being a loving mother to Chelsea and Christopher. She was a wonderful, special and unique person who will be greatly missed.

Susan died tragically on Sunday, February 26, 2017. She was 53 years of age.

She leaves her beloved daughter, Chelsea, and her son-in-law, Bryan, along with their 3-year old son, her grandson, Kai, in Palm Bay, Florida; her former companion of 30 years, Larry, and their foster son, Chris, in Central Vermont; her mother, Lois, in Barefoot Bay, Florida; her father and step-mother, Donald and Dawn, in Hawthorne, New Jersey; and brothers and sisters, Kryn and his wife P.K., in Goodyear, Arizona, John, in Barefoot Bay, and Jill and her husband, Chris, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She also leaves her nieces Kaitlyn, Hailey, and Amara, and several step-brothers and step-sisters; also countless friends.

Her loved ones will hold a memorial service in her honor at Riverview Park in Sebastian, Florida, at 3:00PM, March 16th, and another one in Central Vermont on April 29th, 2017.
