IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Teresa Gaye
Calhoun
December 11, 1948 – September 13, 2018
Teresa Calhoun, lovingly known as 'Lola' to her children and grandchildren, was born on December 11, 1948 to Joe and Henrietta Martoe in Pineville, West Virginia. A resident of Sebastian, Florida, she left this life too soon at the age of 69 on September 13, 2018 alongside her long-time partner, Larry Rubino.
Never afraid to speak her mind, Teresa was given the nickname 'Rebel' when her family moved from rural West Virginia to New Jersey in her youth. She quickly made friends with her outgoing personality, and her passion for fairness and equality was way ahead of its time. She married in 1969 and gave birth to a son and daughter. She later remarried and had been widowed for many years.
A fun-loving free spirit who sought to help others, Teresa earned an associate degree from Alderson Broaddus University and worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the emergency room of her local hospital.
As the daughter of a WWII veteran, Teresa cared deeply about the protection and well-being of those serving in the military and their families. Like many children of the 1960s, she understood that it was not only possible, but sometimes necessary, to protest the war while supporting the troops. She proudly served as Secretary for the local chapter of the American Legion Riders.
Teresa's legacy will live on through her devoted children, Joe and Jenny, her daughter-in-law Angie, step-daughter Jenny Ann, and grandsons, Joe Jr., John, Robert, John Paul, and Andrew. She counts many dear cousins and friends among those who will miss her loyalty, compassion, powerful presence, love of bling, sense of humor, and superior bingo-calling capabilities.
Those who knew and loved Teresa are secure in the knowledge that she has been returned to a peaceful, infinite, and loving universe that is free of walls and borders.
A celebration of Teresa's life will be held at Seawinds Funeral Home in Sebastian on Monday, September 24 th with visitation from 10:00 am – 11:00 am followed by a service at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Autism Society of America ( www.autism-society.org ) – a very important and personal cause to Teresa and her family.
