Thor E. Giske passed away on July 31st 2017. Thor was born on a kitchen table in Brooklyn, NY on June 10th 1918. He is survived by his daughter Sandra Stephens, his son Gregory Giske, his daughter-n-law Denise Giske, his 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and many close friends.

At a young age, during the depression, he held several jobs. At day he had a junk cart and a shoe shine box, which he built. At night he loaded fruit and vegetable trucks. Any job was welcome during this era. He attended P.S. 169, Pershing Junior High and Bay Ridge High School in Brooklyn. Before the war he worked for Bethlehem Steel dry dock where he was also the Shop Stewart and billing clerk.

He was a proud vet that served in the Army Air Corp and 8th Air Force during WW II. After the War it was back to the Shipyards. He later tested and worked as a journeyman iron worker for local 40 in NYC. After a life threatening industrial accident he spent 3 months in a body cast and 11 months in a hospital. This prevented physical work so he decided to further his education. He received a B.S. in business from Long Island University and attended graduate school at N.Y.U. He later worked as the Regional Sales Manager, Marketing Manager and Marketing Coordinator in the publishing industry. He retired at age 70 and enjoyed the last 20+ years in Barefoot Bay.

He overcame the physical limitations and enjoyed swimming, exercise and racquet ball. He reached the age of 99 due to his healthy lifestyle but the pain and suffering he experienced over the last 2 years ended his life.

He had a great sense of humor, told great jokes and stories and wrote is life story at the age 83. The Might Thor will be missed but he will now be with his wife and childhood sweetheart, Evelyn.
