Obituary

Verna Lovatt, 98, died August 26, 2011, at Consulate Health Care in Vero Beach.
She was one of 10 siblings born in Marsden, Saskatchewan, Canada. Along with her husband and daughter, she immigrated to the United States in 1956 and settled in Miami. She and her husband subsequently lived in Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Winter Haven.
At age 55 she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree Cum Laude from Florida Atlantic University followed by a Master of Education degree two years later. She taught school and later served as a guidance counselor in Fort Lauderdale.
She was predeceased by her husband Alfred and is survived by her daughter Mamie (Ray) Sullivan of Sebastian, her sister Edna Hay of Edmonton, Alberta, and her brother Fred Caine of Abbotsford, British Columbia.
She was a writer of Christian literature and a devout Baptist who generously supported her church and many Christian charities throughout her life.
A memorial service will be held at Sebastian United Methodist Church, 1029 Main St., Sebastian, on at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 1. Memorials may be sent to the Florida United Methodist Children's Home, 51 Main Street, Enterprise, FL 32725.
