Obituary

Verne Patricia Brown, 82 transitioned from this earthly life on July 16, 2024 at St. Francis Reflections by Lifestage Care in Melbourne, Florida. She was the wife of Hilton "Gus" Brown. They shared many wonderful years together cruising and travelling, especially to art museums and national parks.

Verne Patricia Brown was born July 25, 1941 to the late Vernon Norwood Fuhrer and Lillian Ellen Beadenkopf Fuhrer in Baltimore, Maryland. Verne was predeceased by her parents and her son Charles (Chuck) Conkling. She was a graduate of Western High School in Baltimore, Maryland. Verne loved helping people and pursued a nursing career which led her to work in Indian River County as an LPN.

Verne was a member of First Baptist Church of Barefoot Bay, Barefoot Bay, Florida. She loved singing in the choir. Verne was a member of the Art Guild of Barefoot Bay, Art Guild of Vero Beach and the Sebastian River Art Club.  She received the "Best of Show" award from the Artist Guild's annual "Art From The Heart" event as well as awards from Fort Pierce Art Museum, Vero Beach Art Museum and numerous other art venues. Verne loved teaching watercolor, oil painting and batik art.

Verne loved spending time with family, Southern gospel music, watching various sports on television (especially the Baltimore Orioles), travelling and playing Mexican train/dominoes game. Her light has always shown brightly through her smile and love for others. She was a benevolent provider of clothing to the less fortunate children of Brevard County. Verne's great faith in God, kindness and love will be truly missed by all who knew her.

Verne leaves loving memories with her husband, Hilton "Gus" Brown, son Bryan Conkling, stepdaughters, Monica, Daniella "Dee Dee" and Angelika; daughter-in-law Patricia Conkling, sister Lyn Simmons and her beloved dog Rubi; grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, nephews, sisters-in-law and a host friends.

Memorial service will be held on August 18, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Barefoot Bay, 303 Barefoot Boulevard, Barefoot Bay, Florida.
