Obituary

Walter J. Mackiewicz, 89, of Plainville, CT & Micco, FL, passed away June 17th, 2025 at home in FL. He was born on June 14th, 1936 in New Britain, CT to the late Stella & Teofil Mackiewicz. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Barbara (Stone) Mackiewicz.

Walter was employed by Stanley Works & Cold Metal Products as a Foreman where he spent his whole career until he retired in 1999. He was active in the United Steelworkers Union as a Union Rep.  He managed Little League baseball for many years. He was a member of the Stanley Works Seniors where he played cards every Wednesday & the Plainville Senior Center. He was a great dancer & enjoyed dancing with his late wife & later with his companion, Dianne. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in New Britain, CT, the Moose Club in FL & was a Freemason. He was an avid deer hunter & enjoyed hunting with his brother, Edward (Max), son, Wayne, grandson, Shayne & his good friend, Kamber Bulica in VT & CT. He kept active by fixing things around the house, there was nothing he couldn't fix. He built a house from the ground up in VT with the help of friends & family. He enjoyed traveling & visited Paris, Alaska, Hawaii & went on many cruises. He enjoyed singing karaoke at the Tiki Bar where he was affectionately known as "Big Daddy" & sang "Ring of Fire" by Johnny Cash.  He was a great cook & enjoyed spending time with his family & friends over dinner.

He leaves behind his companion, Dianne Prentice of Micco, FL, as well as his two daughters, Brenda Gannon of WI & Betsy Witkowski of Plainville, CT; his son Wayne Mackiewicz & wife Dyann of Andover, CT. Also his grandchildren, Kailie Gannon, Kristin Gannon Hildebrand & Corey Gannon all of WI; Shayne Mackiewicz of Plainville, CT & Breanna Witkowski of Bristol, CT. His great grandchildren, Sorcha Gehl, Zoey Gannon, Iselyne Mackiewicz, Riley Sargis & Dylan Hildebrand. As well as his beloved dog, Molly & many neices, nephews, relatives & friends.

Walter was predeceased by his son, Walter Mackiewiz, Jr., his brothers Chet, Henry & Edward Mackiewicz & grandson, Saxxon Mackiewicz.

Walter will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He could always be counted on to lend a helping hand, a shoulder to cry on, make you laugh, give advice, or just give you a hard time.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date & shared on social media.
