Benson
July 15, 1937 – November 3, 2022
William G. Benson (SGM Retired), 85, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2022, in Sebastian, FL. He was the husband of Michaele Benson. They shared 51 years together in a love filled marriage to one another. He was the proud father to his son Daniel, whom he loved greatly.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the first of four sons born to Irene and William Benson. William proudly served in the US Army, US Army Reserves, and the National Guard, retiring at the rank of Sergeant Major. He held multiple degrees including an Associate Degree from the American Academy of Mortuary Services, an Associate Degree in Labor Industrial Relations from Cornell University, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Labor Relations from the State University of New York, and a Master of Science Degree in Human Resources from Central Michigan University. From 1962 he was a licensed funeral director. He retired from the Department of Defense where he was a Contracting Officer.
William was a member of multiple social organizations including the NRA, the Sons of Norway, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the Elks, the Funeral Directors Association, the Contracting Management Association, and the Sebastian River Art Club. He enjoyed painting, playing cards and spending time with friends. He enjoyed reading books about the military, labor unions, American history, and world history. He will be remembered for his big personality, sense of humor, caring ways, strong commitment to his immediate family, and strong friendship to his lifelong friends, to which he considered family. He will also be remembered for the amazing stories about his life that were almost too hard to believe.
William is survived by his wife Michaele, his son Daniel, and the family dog Shamus.
A graveside service will be held in the coming weeks with an interment taking place at the South Florida National Cemetery located at 6501 South State Road 7, Lake Worth, FL 33449.
