Obit: William Lee Monroe, Sr.

William Lee Monroe, Sr., 90, of Palm Bay, FL died Friday, June 1, 2012 at Brookshire Assisted Living in Melbourne, FL.

Mr. Monroe was born in Nocatee, FL and lived in Vero Beach from 1970 until the late 1980's moving to Palm Bay ten years ago.

He had served in the US Army Air Corp during WW II as a Top Turrent Gunner aboard the B-17 "Gung-Ho". Mr. Monroe had taught drafting, architecture and shop at Vero Beach High School before his retirement. He was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association in Vero Beach and of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include his wife of over 60 years, Vera Fay Monroe of Palm Bay, FL; sons William Lee Monroe, Jr. of Palm Bay and Robert Peter Monroe of Vienna, IL; daughter Jewel Monroe of Washington; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his siblings Ramona, Helen, James and Idoma.

Services: A graveside service will be held at 10 am, Friday, June 8, 2012 at Winter Beach Cemetery with military honors by VFW Post 3918.
