William R. Neergaard, Sr., age 80 of Barefoot Bay, FL passed away at Sebastian River Medical Center on Tuesday, September 13, 2016. He was born in Woburn, MA on December 5, 1935, and was a resident of Barefoot Bay, FL since 1989 coming from Ogunquit, ME and Woburn, MA.
William is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary Joyce Golden Neergaard; son, William R. Neergaard, Jr. and his girlfriend, Kimberly Watson of Barefoot Bay, FL; daughter, Joyce "Joy" Barbas and her husband, Peter of Woburn, MA; brother, Frederick Neergaard of York Beach, ME; grandchildren, Aimee Lussier, William R. Neergaard, III, and his wife Leah, and Peter E. Barbas, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Michael Mowry, Caden and Colby Lussier; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Jon F. Neergaard; parents, Winifred Healy Neergaard and Fred Neergaard; sister, Helen Gaynor; and brother, Edward F. Neergaard.
William graduated from Somerville, MA Vocational High School and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, he retired from the Woburn, MA Fire Department, was a past president of the Fraternal Order of Orioles 272, a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1767, Sebastian River, FL, and a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church, Barefoot Bay, FL.
A Memorial Mass is scheduled for 10:00 am Friday, September 23, 2016, at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 5055 Micco Rd, Barefoot Bay, FL, 32976. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Barefoot Bay Fire Department or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
