William Alvin Pollock, Dec 27, 1924, entered into eternal rest on Feb. 22, 2018 at the age of 93. He was born and raised in Macomb, ILL and graduated from Macomb High School. The son of Valasco and Ruby (Lusk) Pollock. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Louis and Robert Pollock.
He joined the US Navy in 1943 WWII Pacific fleet. From 1946-1947 he took part in the Expedition " Operation High Jump" to the South Pole with Admiral Byrd on the flagship USS Mount Olympus. While stationed in Great Lakes, ILL he met and married Catherine (of Kenosha WI) on June 16, 1951. He retired from active duty after 20 years of service, where he then continued a government career in Great Lakes, Ill and later at the Naval Support Activity, Mechanicsburg, PA. Desiring warmer weather and ocean breezes along with more opportunities to golf, swim and fish, he and his wife moved to Florida where they have resided for the last 28 years.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, daughters Rita (Robert) McConnell of Ocean View, DE, Catherine Colm (Jim Hegeman) of Camp Hill, PA and Barbara (Randy) Shindle of Lewisberry, PA., 4 granddaughters and 3 great grandchildren along with nieces and nephews. Burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery.
A Funeral Service is scheduled for 11:00 am, Thursday, March 1, 2018 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 13075 U.S. Hwy 1, Sebastian, FL 32958. Burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
In Lieu of flowers please send donations to St Jude's Children's Research Hospital or to the charity of your choice in honor of William Alvin Pollock.
